Pet Remedies

We believe in the theory behind treating the whole animal, rather than just symptoms.

All too often, steroids and/or "broad spectrum" antibiotics are used on our pets for everything from allergies and arthritis to digestive issues and cancers. Though these modern drugs do often give relief, they generally suppress one set of symptoms only to have another problem emerge down the line. Because steroids essentially switch off the immune system, they are generally followed by a course of antibiotics, to ward off or treat opportunistic infections that manifest while the animal's system is "down." The antibiotics can cause further issues which manifest as a buildup of Candida (yeast infection), ear infections, hot spots and more. And so the cycle continues, often ramping up to the animal's discomfort and your dismay!

Prescription diets are, in our opinion, more of the same--treating an animal's symptoms without getting to the root of the problem. Most have one or two therapeutic ingredients while offering very little true & healthy nutrition. Most are comprised of by-products, glutens and other inferior grain fragments; and some even still include really scary stuff like BHA, BHT and/or Ethoxyquin. (Do a little research on those "gems"...then check those bratwursts & other favorite foods of yours. You may rethink your diet too!)

Homeopathy is one "alternative" medicinal modality that has been in existence for about 200 years...with virtually no side effects! (Think about that the next time you hear one of those TV ads for a drug company!) We may not understand how homeopathy works--we just know that there are lots of people worldwide that know that it does work! Dr. Richard Pitcairn—one of America's foremost holistic veterinarians-is a great advocate of homeopathy for pets.

In addition to homeopathy, there are various other "alternative" treatment options to explore like flower essences, herbal medicines, nutritional healing, touch therapy and more.

We have a vast reference library and can help you explore the myriad possibilities, but we recommend you work closely with a veterinarian who can guide you into making the best choices for your pet—combining the best of both allopathic and holistic treatments.
